Fun Church Activities
Mar 17th 2023
Are you looking for ways to engage your church community and promote a sense of unity and fellowship? Attending church is an important part of the congregations’ life but it doesn’t have to be serious all the time. In fact, doing fun activities together can strengthen bonds and create lasting shared memories. So put on your clergy dresses and robes and get ready for a fun day with the entire congregation, from service projects to day trips!
Group Outings
Group outings are a great way to bring your church community together outside of the sanctuary. Here are some fun ideas for group outings:
Movie Night
Organize a movie night at the church, complete with popcorn and snacks. You can choose a family-friendly movie or one with a religious theme. Some theaters like AMC will even let you rent an entire theater so you can make it an extra special experience!
An alternative is to have a movie night at the church or in someone’s yard, using a projector. This is a fun alternative because you can bring the s’mores and other fun backyard activities like barbeques. Doing your own personal movie night also opens up more movie options so you can find one that is right for your congregation. Even have a poll beforehand to see what movie everyone prefers!
Game Night
Host a game night at the church where families can come together to play board games, card games, and other fun activities. This can be held within the church itself or at a fun location, like an arcade. You can even have people form groups for some fun and friendly competition. Have everyone bring their own board games for more variety.
Bowling Night
Rent out a local bowling alley and invite members of the congregation to come bowl and socialize. A lot of bowling places also have good food, like pizza and burgers. This is a fun and cost-effective way to bring everyone together.
A great alternative is a skating rink! Renting a skating rink is a really fun way to get everyone moving in a family-friendly environment. Talk to the DJ beforehand to play some appropriate and inspirational music. You can also request a variety of fun games.
Potluck Dinner
Plan a potluck dinner where everyone brings a dish to share. This is a great way to showcase everyone's cooking skills and enjoy a meal together.
Picnic in the Park
Organize a picnic in a nearby park or outdoor space. Have everyone bring a fun dish, preferably finger foods! Also bring some really fun things to do like frisbee and soccer balls so everyone can take advantage of the fresh air and nice weather.
Another good idea is to bring some food to the beach if there’s one close enough! An outing to the beach is a really fun adventure. You can even have people sign up for surfing lessons and other adventurous activities. Or just lounge around in the sun and listen to some music!
Karaoke Night
Karaoke is the perfect way to have everyone let loose in a safe and welcoming environment. You can rent a karaoke room or just set up a karaoke hangout in the church. Have everyone add to a Spotify list beforehand to keep track of what songs people want to sing along to!
Service Projects
Serving others is an important part of many religious traditions. Here are some service project ideas that can help bring your church community together while giving back:
Volunteer at a Local Charity
Organize a group to volunteer at a local charity, such as a homeless shelter or food bank. This is a great way to give back to the community while building relationships within your church.
Neighborhood Cleanup
Organize a neighborhood cleanup day where members of the congregation can come together to clean up litter and beautify their community. This is a powerful way to connect and form a sense of support. Have everyone choose their specific task to keep it organized and amp up the teamwork.
Community Garden
Start a community garden where members of the congregation can come together to plant and tend to a garden. A community garden promotes sustainability and healthy eating habits. You can have a local expert come and talk about different growing tips and tricks and do some hands-on activities.
Christmas Toy Drive
Organize a toy drive for children in need during the holiday season. This is a great way to spread holiday cheer and help those less fortunate.

Bible Study Groups
Organize small groups to meet and discuss passages from the Bible. This is a great way to deepen one's spiritual understanding and bond with fellow members of the church.
Prayer Walks
Organize a group to take a walk through the community while praying for the needs of others. Prayer walks can bring everyone closer together in a deep way and open up some impactful discussions.
Worship Night
Host a night of worship where members of the congregation can come together and sing praises to God. This is a great way to build community and foster a deeper sense of spirituality.
Retreats
Plan a weekend retreat where members of the congregation can get away and focus on their relationship with God. This is a great way to really build bonds and lasting relationships between members of the church.
Baptisms
Hold a baptism service where members of the congregation can be baptized and publicly declare their faith. This is a powerful way to celebrate the faith of your church community and deepen your spiritual connection to God.
